John Kuester rips players after their fourth-straight loss
The Detroit Pistons absorbed their fourth-straight defeat when the Boston Celtics defeated them handily, 109-86, on Monday in front of their home-town fans.
The Pistons, who were a perennial contender a few years back, but struggled to find a winning formula since trading away veteran point guard Chauncey Billups, started the season with a 0-4
record for the first time since the 1999-2000 season, and head coach John Kuester isn’t happy about their horrible start.
The second-year coach, Kuester, voiced his frustration after the game against the Celtics, saying that their locker room has a leadership void and someone needs to make a step forward and
add a voice to their team.
The 55-year old coach, who spent 14 years as an assistant coach before Joe Dumars hired on 2009, reiterated to his players that they should not make their depleted roster an excuse because
no one is going to sympathize with them.
"We have to collectively, some way or somehow, find another voice besides my own that is going to lead us," Kuester said.
Veteran forward Tayshaun Prince agreed with Kuester’s opinion, but also made a sharp statement that their head coach should also take the blame for their lacklustre start this season.
"He's right, but at the same time it goes both ways," Prince said. "We can sit here and continue to get on each other and be vocal, but like I said, the right thing has got to come from him
as well as us. It goes both ways. He says we got to be more vocal, he has to do some things better, too. Obviously, we're 0-4 so it ain't just the team."
The tension inside the Pistons’ locker room started when they blew a 21-point lead against the Chicago Bulls on Saturday 30 October, after failing to make necessary adjustments when the Bulls
and Derrick Rose were slowly scoring at will in the second half.
"I just feel we didn’t make the right adjustments as a team," Gordon said after their game against the Bulls. "Derrick was really hot and it seemed like he could do whatever he wanted."
The Pistons will try to bounce back and score their first win of the season when they go up against the Atlanta Hawks, who are still undefeated in their first four games of the season.
