John Lucas III considering Miami Heat, other teams after Chicago Bulls sign Kirk Hinrich – NBA News
John Lucas III said on Monday that the Chicago Bulls decision to recruit Kirk Hinrich has forced him to rethink his future in the Bulls. He has been contacted by a number of teams including the Miami Heat.
“(Miami is) one of the teams that's interested in me. I'm just taking time looking at everything and what's going to be the best situation for me. I want to go somewhere where I can contribute and go in there
and just basically play and bring something to the team,” said Lucas in an appearance on "The Carmen, Jurko & Harry Show" on ESPN 1000.
Hinrich verbally agreed to a contract offer by the Bulls on Sunday. He has played for the Bulls before and has been brought back to cover up for the loss of Derrick Rose. Rose underwent surgery on his left knee
after suffering an ACL injury and is scheduled to be out for the next 8 to 10 months. His absence leaves a big hole in the Bulls backcourt and they are trying to fill it with players such as Hinrich.
"With everything that's going on now and I've heard they re-signed Kirk, which is a good move for them, so it kind of puts a little bit ... I'll sit down with my team and see what happens on that end. (Miami)
is a team that's reaching out to contact me, showing interest. It's coming from management,” added Lucas.
Lucas played 14.8 minutes per game during the 2011-2012 NBA season as Rose suffered from a list of injuries. He averaged 7.5 points for the season, and had an amazing game against the Miami Heat on March 14 where
he scored 24 points on the night.
Lucas and LeBron James of the Miami Heat have some history from the past season. James jumped over Lucas’s head for an alley oop duck on January 29th and then stared him down. Miami won
that match.
When the two teams met on April 19th, Lucas was knocked to the ground by a screen from James and Lucas still believes that James meant to knock him down intentionally. If the point guard does move
to Miami, it will be interesting to see the relationship between the two.
