What training method do you think would be better. John Lyons (the owner of my barn trains young horses with the John Lyons method and he can help) Or I go with my instructors way of teaching young horses. She is a level 2 Centered Riding Instructor. She trained my mare from the ground up. My mare is amazing..

  1. Well, if it ain't broke don't fix it.  Personally, I like to take input from all of the good trainers, but if the results are there, and you have no problem with your trainer's methods, why change?

EDIT...You could go with John Lyons for the foal so that you would be learning his methods in addition to those of centered riding, and ultimately become more well rounded.

  2. I like to mix tips from different trainers like that, I have 2 jumpers (one in training) and i have used tips from john lyons, monty roberts, and mixed in some stuff they use on training dressage horses in the netherlands (my old instructor was from there, he used many different things including some centered riding tips) i dont like to use parelli though.

  3. I also agree, "if it aint broke dont fix it"

If you are looking to train further, and want to pay go back to your trainer.

But if you want to Do it yourself, look into all methonds, Lyons, Parelli, Roberts, etc... Discover your own way of training. Its the best experience ever!

  4. I agree with the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" idea.

Your mare already has a foundation in the centered Riding school of thought, and you say it is working well for her.  If the mare is happy and you are happy, I would stick with what you are doing.

Neither program is better than the other.
