John M. Oxx's charge Saddler’s Rock aiming to secure a spot in the Group 1 Gold Cup at Ascot
It seems like the A.P. O’Brien trained, Fame And Glory, will take a rain check on the Seamus & Rosemary McGrath Memorial Saval Beg Stakes at Leopardstown on 8th June, 2012, and head straight to the Royal
Ascot to defend his title in the Group 1 Gold Cup on 21st June, 2012.
The son of Montjeu, out of mare Gryada, raced as a favourite in the Group 1 Gold Cup on 16th June, 2011, at Ascot. Coupled with jockey Jamie Spencer, he was guided to a 3 length victory over the Mahmood
Al Zarooni trained Opinion Poll.
Along with the prestigious victory, he has plenty more in the Group 1 category including the victory in the Group 1 Investec Coronation Cup in June, 2010, where he finished 1 ½ lengths ahead of, Sariska.
Since the six-year-old horse, Fame and Glory, will not compete in this event, Saddler’s Rock, trained by John M. Oxx will have one less thing to worry about.
Saddler’s Rock is the son of Sadler´s Wells, out of mare Grecian Bride, will be using this opportunity to earn a spot in the Gold Cup, and with Fame And Glory out of the way, his dream looks more realistic.
The four-year-old bay colt previously triumphed in the Group 2 Stobart Doncaster Cup at Doncaster on 9th September, 2011, where he broke through the wire first, 4 lengths ahead of race favourite, Opinion Poll.
Trainer Dermot Weld has entered his runners Unaccompanied, and Sense Of Purpose in this race, with the hope of an incredible performance by either one of them.
Unaccompanied, owned by Moyglare Stud Farm, looks in much better shape, since she recently finished second to Fame And Glory in the Vintage Crop Stakes at Navan by a small margin of a neck on 20th May, 2012.
Sense Of Purpose, daughter of Galileo, out of mare Super Gift, performed brilliantly last season, but her closing race completely missed the mark as she finished seventh in the Group 2 DFS Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster in September, 2011.
