John McEnroe doesn’t favourite Andy Murray for the US Open title – Tennis News
World number four, Andy Murray, surprised everyone by grabbing the gold medal at London Olympics earlier this month. However, the dilemma of 'no Grand Slam title' is still there. It looks to be no opening for him to sneak through
and grab the elitist title of tennis in the upcoming US Open Championships either.
Former world number one, John McEnroe, who won seven Grand Slam titles in his era, talked about the possibilities of the champions the fast approaching Major tournament at New York. He clearly mentioned that the number one Briton
will have to have his work cut out in order to put an end to the drought of Grand Slam titles, despite having won a gold medal at a four-yearly event, the Olympics.
Talking to the media reporters, the superstar McEnroe stated, “Winning the Olympics doesn’t really get the monkey off Murray’s back. But it’s certainly a good start. Obviously he is going to come in as the No3 seed, which doesn’t
necessarily change a whole lot for him because, if things go according to form, he’d still have to beat two out of the top three guys.”
He further added, “Though it’s pretty wide open between the three top, I’ll probably have to pick Djokovic for the title. Nadal’s out of the picture but Murray’s beaten Nadal at the US Open before, so it’s not as if he didn’t feel
he could do that in the past.”
The Grand Slam Championships will begin from August 27th and will feature the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, and the former world number one, Novak Djokovic, as the top two seeds, with the Scot joining in as the third
seed competitor due to the absence of the Spanish superhero, Rafael Nadal, who is still struggling from the chronic knee injury that erupted at the second round of the Wimbledon Championships in June.
It will be an entertaining event for sure; though the absence of Nadal will definitely be felt because no one can play like him when he is on song. Let’s hope, the fans witness another scintillating event that features some mind-startling
contests.
