John Mitchell announces Golden Lions match day squad for final of 2011 ABSA Currie Cup – Rugby News
South African provincial Rugby Union side, Golden Lions, has announced their 22-man squad for an upcoming encounter against the Natal Sharks. Lions will take on the defending champions Sharks,
in the final of the 2011 ABSA Currie Cup tournament. Lions head coach, John Mitchell, has listed the Lions squad on Wednesday, October 26.
Mitchell has named the same starting xv which took the field for the Lions in their last week semi-final clash against the Western Province. Lions defeated the Western Province 29 – 20 at home.
Golden Lions are the 2011 ABSA Currie Cup table leaders as they finished the round stages at the top position with 50 points. Out of their 14 round matches, Lions have won 10, played a draw
once and lost on three occasions. They won two losing bonus points, but failed to register a bonus point in their last round match against the Natal Sharks.
Sharks delivered a thumping defeat to the Lions, when both teams played each other last. However, the result will have little or no impact on the Saturday’s game, as the Lions played a second
string side for their last round match of the tournament.
Lions will take on the Sharks in the final of the Currie Cup on Saturday, October 29 at Coca-Cola Park, Johannesburg.

Mitchell has hinted to make only one change in his match day 22 from his semifinal squad, which took the field against the Province during the last weekend.
Mitchell named both Jacobie Adriaanse and JC Janse van Rensburg, as front row forwards replacement player in his match day squad for the weekend’s final encounter. Janse van Rensburg is yet
to recover from a hamstring injury, which he sustained earlier and kept him sidelined from their semifinal game against the Province.
However, the final decision to include the player will be made later in the week.  Mitchell said, “We'll wait till just before the game before making the call on JC's fitness.”
The Lions match day squad for their 2011 Currie Cup squad consists of,
Starting XV: 15 Jaco Taute, 14 Deon van Rensburg, 13 Doppies la Grange, 12 Alwyn Hollenbach, 11 Michael Killian, 10 Elton Jantjies, 9 Michael Bondesio, 8 Joshua Strauss (captain), 7 Michael
Rhodes, 6 Derick Minnie, 5 Franco van der Merwe, 4 Wikus van Heerden, 3 Patric Cilliers, 2 Bandise Maku, 1 CJ Van der Linde.

Replacements: 16 Martin Bezuidenhout, 17 Jacobie Adriaanse/JC Janse van Rensburg, 18 Warren Whiteley, 19 Cobus Grobbelaar, 20 Butch James, 21 Dylan des Fountain, 22 James Kamana
