If there is any concept that empowers people to act, it is the belief that every movement has to start with one person bold and brave enough to go on record publicly, vocally, and as persuasively as possible. The view that only large movements can be effective dooms us to inaction until someone else takes the initiative.

John Muir's words influenced everyone to take a look at the beauty of nature and to conserve it not only for them, but for future generations.

He had not only the vision to embrace and protect our wildlands, but his writings liberated many forrests and animals who then had no voice - making it possible to create our National Parks System that is in place today.

I believe that by John Muir having this passion and standing up and educating this period of time on the amazing beauty of nature, it showed he had the " power of one".
