John Murray, Kevin Mitchell vow to claim WBO Intercontinental Lightweight title – Boxing news
The British professional boxer and the winner of the Amateur Boxing Association British Featherweight Championship, Kevin Martin Mitchell will be facing Michael Katsidis of Australia in their 12-round bout for the WBO Intercontinental Lightweight title on
July 16, 2011 at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, Merseyside.
During their pre-fight press conference, both the fighters promised their fans to win the championship bout.
This co-featured fight is part of the Ricky Burns vs. Nicky Cook fight card. Burns will be defending his WBO super-featherweight title against Nicky Cook of England on the same night. The English boxing manager and promoter Frank Warren thinks that this
is the real competition that boxing fans wants to see.
The brother of former British Olympian Joe Murray and the reigning European Lightweight Champion, Murray said, “Our fight won’t disappoint. It’s going to be a proper tear up. The real winners will be the fans. We are both world class fighters and will both
be at our very best. It will be one h**l of a fight for as long as it lasts.”
On the other hand his opponent, Kevin ‘The Dagenham Destroyer’ Mitchell is looking very determined and keen to win this championship bout.
Mitchell said, “I’m going to do a real number on him, if you thought the Prescott performance was good, just wait until you see this. Watch out.”
Frank Warren believes whoever wins the bout will get a world title shot.
The 26-year-old, Orthodox stance John Murray believes that he is the best lightweight in the country and he is the only one to gain weight thrice in his professional boxing career. He said he is a domestic rival and when he went against domestic rivals,
he knocked them out. He is expecting to do the same again.
Hopefully, the competition between the two will be an exciting one as both the fighters have promised. Let’s see how it turns out.
