John Murray reckons he will have to be a machine for next six weeks – Boxing news
The reigning European lightweight champion and the former British champion at the weight John Murray has said he will have to be a machine for the next six weeks ahead of his bout with Kevin Mitchell.
The unbeaten 26-year-old Murray, who has won all of his 31 fights with 18 knockouts, will take on the Dagenham Destroyer, Kevin Mitchell, for the World Boxing Organisation Intercontinental title fight on July 9, 2011 at the Excel Arena.
Murray told the media he is aiming a world title shot and that is what his dream has always been. He said in order to get a chance at the world title, he has to see off Mitchell and therefore he will put in his best. He added he will only sleep, eat and
run so that he becomes like a machine before he steps into the ring.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “I am going to push myself to the limit because I need to be in top shape if I am going to do a real good job on Kevin, which is what I expect. I will go to the gym, then to my mum’s house, eat, sleep and run. I
will be like a machine for the next six weeks. But you have to live like a monk. I am hoping this is the year I make it and get a world title shot. That’s what I need. I need to be world champion. That’s been the dream since I turned pro.”
Murray’s trainer Joe Gallagher commented on his fighter and said along with physical fitness, Murray also needs to tactically and crucially be in top shape or otherwise he can simply stop thinking about a world title shot.
He stated, “He needs to be tactically and - crucially - physically in top shape or he can kiss goodbye to the world title shot we’ve worked so hard to get.”
It is not going to be an easy night for Murray, as Mitchell has also 31 wins with 23 knockouts on his record. Let’s see if Murray can see off Mitchell.
