Newcombe on Tomic: “His game has become predictable” – Tennis News
World number 52, Bernard Tomic, had a terrible season in 2012. He was all over the place throughout the year and couldn’t adjust at all. He was frustrated at several occasions and some incidents at his home soil also make things
difficult for him. The major issue was that the local police of Australia charging their hero for ‘hooning’ at the roads in his Orange BMW car. Moreover, the racquet tantrum and some ‘disgraceful’ remarks from the former Aussie greats also lowered his confidence
and dismantled the concentration of the youngster.
Recently, there has been a change in the point of view towards Tomic and a lot of players have jumbled up to help the 20-year-old youngster groom in a better way. He is such a unique talent and owns such magnificent technique that
can hardly be found amongst the new breed. However, the lack of focus in the game has destroyed him completely and some rude remarks have worsened the scenario.
Former Tennis Great, John Newcombe, stood up to help the kid. He spoke about the slump in the form of Bernard Tomic and stated, “I'm not sure also if he realises that his game has become predictable. He had a different type of
game that worked when he came on to the scene and guys had trouble dealing with it. Now they've figured out what he can and what he can't do. They're probing that and it's making Bernie very uncomfortable in his matches, not realising a way out of that. He
can change that but to play another type of game, he's got to get his fitness up another 30 per cent. He can start developing a more powerful game. He can volley well; he should be spending more time at the net.”
Tomic has failed to live up to the expectations of local fans in 2012 but he is too young to take any stress and still has a lot of time make up for a bad season. He rose to the 27th ranked in the world but the slump
has thrown him out of the Top-50 category. However, the start of the new season is crucial for his recovery because most of the tournaments are played in Australia that can always help him restore faith in his game courtesy to the crowd support.
