John O’Shea reveals that Sir Alex Ferguson couldn’t guarantee him first team football – English Premier League
John O’Shea has told the press in his latest interview that he left Manchester United after Sir Alex Ferguson told him that the veteran Scottish manager wouldn’t be able to offer him a regular starting place in the Manchester United
squad. Manchester United parted ways with two of their long standing defenders in the summer transfer window of 2011 in the shape of John O’Shea and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wesley-c36794 Brown. Both the experienced defenders were sold off to Sunderland as Sir Alex trimmed his squad wisely
in the close season.
John O’Shea was an integral part of Manchester United’s title winning team in the 2008-2009 Premier League season, a season in which the Red Devils also reached the UEFA Champions League final which they eventually lost to Lionel
Messi’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 as a utility player throughout his career, sometimes he was deployed as a centre back or a full back whilst other times he was put in the central midfield region to act as a defensive enforcer.
O’Shea was heavily criticised during his time at Old Trafford by certain members of the Red Devils’ fan base but his versatility always maintained its value for Sir Alex Ferguson. United have already found replacements for their
two departing defenders in the shape of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darren-Bent-c10358.
John O’Shea said in his latest interview, “I always said the manager would decide whether I would stay or leave. We evaluated things and he said he couldn’t promise me as many games this season as in previous seasons. I had just
turned 30 as well, so it was time to get playing week in, week out and come to a fantastic club. ”
He went onto say, “I know its (Manchester United) one of the biggest and best clubs in the world, but if you don’t feel you are contributing on the pitch then it’s right to go. Every competition United go into they are expected
to win, that’s what drives them and that’s why they have been so successful. That’s the simple difference between the two clubs, but we need that mentality here.”
Sunderland will want to push for a UEFA Europa League place this season as Steve Bruce has added quality and quantity to his squad in the off-season. However the team is still gelling together as there are a lot of new faces at
the Stadium of Light this season.
