John Parrott backs APTC events in new snooker calendar – Snooker News
World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn announced during the final days of the 2011-12 Snooker Season that the snooker governing body, World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) had added three more events in the Players Tour Championship (PTC)
Series in the 2012-13 Snooker Season. He also said that these three events will be held in China and will be termed as Asian PTC series.
These three new PTC events were launched in China this season and they received a lot of appreciation from around the world. The events finished successfully in China where new Chinese faces emerged as upcoming snooker talent. Many top guns and veterans
liked the launch of these new PTC events and believed that with such initiatives, the WPBSA can find the hidden snooker talent across the world.
In a recent interview, one of the legendary cueman, veteran John Parrott expressed his thoughts about these new PTC events. The legend appreciated the initiative and backed the objective behind that.
While speaking to Fantasy Snooker, Parrott said, “The days of a wild card turning up who can’t play is well and truly gone. There are simply too many good players. I’m reading that snooker is on the curriculum at school over there. If you’re talented you
do your schooling in the morning and sport in the afternoon.”
He added, “And of course we have to go by the numbers, there so many players out there that they are bound to produce players.”
China is rapidly becoming the second biggest nation to produce snooker players. In the past couple of years, the Chinese cuemen have made superb progress in the game and proven their class on the bigger stages as the UK Championship, the Masters and the
World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. With this improvement, there is no doubt that soon they will be the biggest snooker country in the world.
It will be exciting to see how many new talented players come out of China to compete with some of the top guns of snooker. The additional tournaments on the calendar will definitely provide many new players a good opportunity to participate in some of the
top international snooker events.
