John Parry leads the Final Qualifying Stage of the European Tour Qualifying School
John Parry did not let the tough Stadium Course at the PGA Catalunya Resort dampen his spirit at the European Tour’s Qualifying School Final Stage, on Wednesday, November 28, 2012.
The 2010 Vivendi Cup winner shot a 6-under 66 – the joint-best score on day five – to take a four-stroke lead, entering the final round of the tournament.
He is being chased by amateur Moritz Lampert, Finn Mikko Korhonen and Matthew Southgate of England with a 13-under par overall score.
Out of the trio, the Englishman was the biggest mover on the leaderboard, after firing a four-under par 68. His performance included five birdies against a lone bogey.
Next on the leaderboard was the duo, Mikael Lundberg and the overnight leader Andy Sullivan, sharing the fifth position, after carding a 12-under par overall score.
The 26-year-old Parry came flying out of the blocks with birdies on four of the first seven holes that he played.
The back nine of the course witnessed him remain consistent, and he added another three shots to his scorecard, while conceding only one bogey.
He is now in prime position to win the final stage of the Qualifying School, which will earn him a berth in the 2013 European Tour season.
According to the European Tour’s qualifying policy, the top-119 players to finish in The Race to Dubai and the top-25 and ties to finish in the Final Qualifying Stage will be awarded with the full-time playing cards for the upcoming season.
“I have played better than that in the last couple of days to be honest,” said Parry. “I hit it quite poorly off the tee but I was decent for seven holes and I was just holing putt after putt”.
He added, “I got lucky here and there but the last three holes are really tough so I was happy with that. Tomorrow I’ll just play exactly the same”.
“Now I just want to win it but obviously you only really want your card so it’s a strange tournament like that. I almost feel my card is in the bag. ...I’m pretty relaxed for tomorrow”.
