John Parry regains his European Tour card through the Qualifying School Final Stage
John Parry regained his European Tour card, after posting a two-under par 70 in the final round of the Qualifying School Final Stage, to record a four-stroke victory, on Thursday, November 29, 2012.
The tournament featured a total of 156 players from different parts of the world, who competed against each other for at least 25 cards on offer at the Catalunya Golf Resort.
According the European Tour’s policy, the top-25 and ties to finish the tournament were allowed to earn their cards for the upcoming year.
At the end of the tournament, a total of 28 players succeeded in making their way onto the bigger stage for the 2013 golf season.
Playing on the Stadium Course, Parry started his final-round campaign four strokes ahead of his rivals, and his lead was never threatened at any moment of the day.
“I’m delighted,” said Parry, who won the 2010 Vivendi Cup but then lost his card the following season after finishing 126th in The Race to Dubai.
“I knew I had my card sewn up before today started, but I was going for the win and I’m happy to have got the job done”.
He added, “It was nice to do it with a bit of a cushion going into the last few holes. I played pretty poorly for the first seven holes. The first two I made good up-and-downs and I was lucky to have a shot out of the trees on the third and made birdie there”.
Talking to the European Tour’s official website, he credited his fitness trainer behind his success in the Final Qualifying Stage.
He revealed that he made the decision to call his trainer, just six days before the official start of the event.
George Murray of Scotland, in the meantime, was left in despair, after missing out on the chance of earning his European Tour card by just one stroke.
He missed an easy putt on the final hole, which forced him to concede a double bogey for a two-over par score for the round. As a result, he slipped outside the top-25 spots on the leaderboard.
