John Paul Fruttero/ Raven Klaasen enter doubles semi-final – Manta Open 2011 CH
American-South African pair of John Paul Fruttero and Raven Klaasen upset the Argentine-Japanese pair of Sebastian Decoud and Toshihide Matsui in straights sets 6-3, 6-1 to reach the semi-finals of the tournament, being played
here at the Manta, Ecuador.
It looked as if it was going to be a tough battle since the Argentine-Japanese pair played some great tennis to oust the Colombian-American pair of Nicolas Barrientos and Joseph Correa en route to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
However, it didn’t turn out to be that tough because the second-seeded pair of Frutterro and Klaasen knew that they had to play at their best and that’s all what they did, clinching the match in straight sets.
The winning duo looked very determined, producing the appropriate balance of attack and defence to win without any difficulty. Their opponents were way too loose and kept struggling to break back during the whole match. They looked
competitive in only some parts of the first set, felling off terribly after the winning pair clinched a whopping 88 percent on first serve to take the first set with a 6-3 score line.
However, the second set was an easy deal for the American-South African pair as Decoud and Matsui looked to have worn out, losing the set with a breadstick defeat. The pair would be definitely disheartened by the result, despite
the fact that they had put in their best to get a hold on their serve.
The winning pair wrapped up their clean effort by scoring a whopping seven aces and 86 percent of their first serve. Furthermore, they won 89 percent of points on service, 49 percent of points on return and 67 percent of points
in total en route to the semi-finals of the tournament.
Fruttero and Klaasen now move on into the semi-finals of the tournament where they will meet the third-seeded pair of Uruguayan Marcel Felder and Italian Daniel Garza, who moved past the Peruvian-Ecuadorian pair of Mauricio Echazu
and Ivan Endara to reach the quarterfinals here at Manta, Ecuador.
