John Richardson’s bestselling golf novel “Dream On” to be made into a movie
John Richardson, author of the bestselling sports novel, “Dream On”, has now confirmed that his work will be made into a movie set to hit the screens somewhere at the start of 2013.
Richardson shot to fame when his debut novel hit the bookstores in early 2009 and surged to the top of the Amazon Sports Book Charts in a matter of months.
The novel describes the struggle of a computer hacker who, when not able to break 100, decided to pull in an even-par round of golf within a year.
The idea was shrugged off by Sam Torrance who told Richardson to “Dream On”, which later became the title of the novel.
The events of the story itself are not only filled with suspense but are also utterly funny at moments where a layman Richardson strives to pull in a reasonable swing to avoid the embarrassment of the passerby’s.
Soon after the popularity of the novel, rumours started making rounds of whether the story would make it to the big screen in coming years.
Richardson, himself, confirmed that the movie is currently under production and will be complete by the end of this year.
Richardson said, “What I can say for certain is that the film will be shot this year. It's currently in pre-production at Elstree studios and will be delivered by October 2012. It's likely to then be ready for the cinemas some time in 2013”.
Answering a question of whether he ever thought his work would be translated into a motion picture, Richardson replied,
"I don't think anyone writes a book without at some stage having their imagination and ego grasping them and, probably after a few drinks, thinking 'this would make a great film. And I'd be lying if I hadn't thought that this would make a great film! So, we'll see".
Richardson also confided that although the lead cast for his role has not been finalised as yet, producers are still considering several high profile celebrities for the role.
He admitted that considering the popularity of the sport around the globe, it is of elementary importance that the lead actor of the movie must be a famous figure not just in US and the Great Britain but around the world.
Apart from the lead role, Richardson also disclosed that several of the famous players on the European Tour will be invited to play cameo roles in the movie.
He said that the script of the movie has been written by famous British filmmaker Farren Blackburn who is also the director of the movie.
The premier of the movie, which is likely to be staged at the end of the current year, will feature top-ranked Northern Irish players of the likes of Rory McIlroy, Darren Clarke and Graeme McDowell.
