John Rollins shares the seventh spot on the first day at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans – Golf News
John Rollins carded another good round at the TPC Louisiana to share the seventh spot in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans on Thursday, April 26, 2012.
Except a double bogey at the par-three third hole, he looked outstanding on the course. He carded a total of five birdies and a spectacular eagle to sign his scorecard with a five-under par 67.
Last year, he had displayed a similar game in the opening three rounds of the tournament. He consistently broke the par and placed his score in the 60s.
While entering the final round, he had an 11-under par three-round score. However, posting a devastating six-over par 78 in the final round took him away from the lead.
This year, he entered the field to atone for the sloppy performance that forced him to stay away from a win.
Therefore, he looked impressive on the course, as he made only 26 putts to finish off his round. Moreover, he made a 47-foot putt that earned him an eagle during the round.
On the final hole, he again received a chance that he missed for a birdie. Rollins said that he should not have missed the chance of another eagle, which could have placed him even higher on the leaderboard.
“I like the golf course,” Rollins said. “It sort of fits my eye. I've enjoyed coming here. I think I have fun on the golf course. It's just a fun week overall. I guess I wish I could take this relaxed feeling everywhere I go. Being comfortable with the golf
course helps. That's the key”.
“I thought I putted well,” Rollins added. “Missed a pretty good look on 18 to get to six-under. Just a little misread there. But, overall, I made some good par saves when I needed to. Made some good putts for birdies, too”.
He is currently two strokes behind the leaders, Ken Duke and Cameron Tringale, both of whom carded a seven-under par 65.
Daniel Chopra, Steve Stricker, Chris Stroud and Ernie Els shared the third spot after carding a six-under par 66.
