John Rollins takes the third spot while entering the final round of the Travelers Championship
John Rollins carded a five-under par 65 in the third round of the Travelers Championship, to finish in a three-way tie for the third place, at the TPC River Highlands, in Cromwell, on Saturday, June 23, 2012.
Rollins got off to a solid start and recorded three birdies through the opening six holes. However, a bad swing on the eighth hole found water that cost him a double bogey in the end.
Thereafter, he managed to bounce back and sank five birdies against a lone bogey to settle two strokes behind the pace set by Roland Thatcher and Brian Davis.
According to him, the only problem that he had was not to land the ball close to the holes. He told that he could have done even better if he had managed to develop more accuracy in his shots.
“I played good today, really got a good score out of it,” he said. “I got off to a pretty good start and just really wasn't I didn't feel like I was really clicking with my iron game today, but I kind of hung in there and still managed to hit some greens,
... had one bad swing there on 8 that cost me a double there”.
“I hit it in the water there,” he added. “That was kind of a tough one to swallow, but I bounced back well, birdied 9 and then birdied 11, got back on track and just kind of hung in there. Birdied 16 and 17, made a couple bombs and got myself back in position”.
The golf commentators are very optimistic about his performance in the final round because of his consistency in the event so far.
The last two tournaments that he played on the PGA Tour, Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial and FedEx St. Jude Classic, witnessed him miss the cut each time.
However, he has now made a great comeback and is considered as one of the strongest contenders for the final round on Sunday.
Stuart Appleby and James Driscoll were the other two players who joined him on the leaderboard after carding three-under par and four-under par scores, respectively.
