John Smiths Kent St Leger semi-finals preview
The John Smiths Kent St Leger semi-finals are set to be run Friday at Crayford. The first round heats were run 12 November with the top three hounds from four heats advancing. The top three from each of
two semi-finals will advance to the £2500 final on 26 November.
The John Smiths Kent St Leger - 1st Semi-final
Rancey Beauty finished third in the first round after leading for the majority of the race. He’ll go from trap one in the first semi-final.
In trap two is Autumn Recession. He was a 5-2 joint favourite last week, and led from the first bend to the eighth before losing to 7-1 longshot, Buglys Spirit.
Crossfield Norma will race from the third trap. She’s finished in second place in her last four races, including the St Leger’s first round heats, and the trail stakes.
Ardera Penny was a 20-1 longshot in the first round, and took first place in a race that had only five competitors. She will probably see similar odds by race time on Friday. Don’t expect this longshot
to make the final, the competition in this race it too strong. She’ll race from trap four.
In trap five is Sapphirine. She finished in third place in the first round after getting bumped early and crowded on the first and third bends. It was a rough race that saw two longshots, including Sapphirine,
advance. Don’t expect this semi-final to produce similar results.
Blonde Blitz missed his break in the first round from trap six, but he still managed to finish in second place. Blitz will again race from the sixth trap, but he won’t be able to recover from another missed
break against this group.
The John Smiths Kent St Leger - 2nd Semi-final
Buglys Spirit will race from trap one in the second semi-final. He won his first round heat after missing his break from trap three. He’ll be less likely to miss his break from trap one, but he’ll also
be less likely to win this heat as the competition is much tougher.
In trap two is Midway Cash. She won her qualifying heat, and has a very good chance to at least qualify for the final.
Lottes Girl was the 4-5 race favourite in the first round, and took second in her heat. She lost ground on the first bend in that race, and wasn’t able to catch up to Fawkham Emperor, who will race from
trap five in this semi-final. She’ll race from trap three.
In trap four is Minnies Penske. She won her opening round heat by 4½ lengths over Blonde Blitz. She dominated that race, and could do the same in this one.
Fawkham Emperor wasn’t quite a longshot at 11-4 when he beat Lottes Girl, and he was racing from trap six. In this race he’ll go from trap five, and the move could make an negative impact on his performance.
Mayes Josie will race from the sixth trap. She took third place in the opening round. She won’t be a favourite or a longshot Friday, and could quietly earn a spot in the final.
