John Tavares leads New York Islanders to major 5-1 victory over Tampa Bay Lightning-NHL Match Update
Tampa Bay lost their third straight matchup of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season as New York Islanders with the help of power forward, John Tavares, overpowered the Lightning to win, 5-1, Thursday night, October 13, at the Nassau
Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, United States.
Earning a spectacular four points throughout their second consecutive victorious matchup, John Tavares upheld his reputation as being the go-to guy for New York Islanders, who are eyeing a better season after one of their worst in history.
"I wanted some more shots on net", said Tavares. "We just played a simple game and got pucks to the net and got rewarded for it. It was only one period and one game, so I just look forward to Saturday now and get ready".
Tampa Bay Lightning lost by a wide margin and facing such losses after coming out of a good season, they realise that no matter how good they might be as a team, they will have to earn each and every victory.
"This League is an unforgiving League … you have to earn it every day", forward Martin St. Louis said. "This is the National Hockey League. Every year, you start from scratch. Nobody's going to give you wins. You have to earn it".
Tavares, who went out in the final period due to a cramp in his quad, scored the opening goal on a quick breakaway, 36 seconds into the match for his first, followed by Lightning’s, Steven Stamkos.
Tampa Bay might have thought that after Stamkos  made his first, they were back in the matchup and could take control, but Islanders scored three more back-to-back in a nine-minute timeframe as Matt Moulson, John Tavares and P.A. Parenteau scored, ending
the period at 4-1.
Michael Grabner scored the contests final goal and secured the matchup while Islanders goalie, Al Montoya made 34 saves to keep Tampa Bay out of the net.
Islanders play one more home game against New York Rangers on Saturday while Tampa Bay plays there last away game against Florida Panthers the same day before returning home.
