Is he still around?

I just discovered his site and material from voting on a HS question.

The site does not appear to have been updated in about 5 years. Is this guy still around and active - writing, lecturing?

If you are a homeschooler and have not discovered his material for yourself, you owe it yourself and your kids to check it out.

Be sure to go through the history tour and listen / watch the audio / video clips.

  1. Haven't heard that anything has happened to him, last thing on record was a visit to the Netherlands last year, but he is about 70 so he might be slowing down a bit.

    Anyway, he rocks!

  2. He's still around, just busy it seems.

I found this extract from a longer article dated earlier this year:

'Gatto's home is in Oxford, New York, where he is currently at work on a documentary film about the nature of modern schooling entitled The Fourth Purpose, with his friend and former student, Roland Legiardi-Laura. For more information about this film, visit The Fourth Purpose...

'...He hopes to build a rural retreat and library for the use of families pondering local and personal issues of school reform...

'...John is available as a speaker'.

Other sites speak of him having another book coming out later this year (1st October).

  3. Thank you for invoking his name.  I heard about him right here on this site.  I would also encourage everybody to research his teachings.

Also research the "No Nothing Legislation" that brought in mandatory schooling to the US and how they based it on the Prussian model of socializing the population to be obedient workers and soldiers.   Ever wonder how Germany could launch two world wars in one century?  Ever wonder why the common person would allow allow the Holocaust to occur?  It's all about good old public school.             And while you're at it check out what is happening in Germany right now with their homeschoolers. (Good old Adolph knew what he was doing when he stomped on all those free thinking homeschoolers)
