John Terry Apologizes for criticizing England coach Fabio Capello over Joe Cole’s Omission from the Squad
Former England captain John Terry has formally apologized to his team manager Fabio Capello, Earlier Terry had openly criticised the tactics of Capello and in response to that, and the manager said Terry had made a big mistake. Now that clearly shows who the boss in the English camp is. The Italian manager has clearly imposed his authority on the team, and there is no doubt now that the Italian is the man in charge and does not take any criticism from his players.
The matter many believe does not end there. Capello is the man who took the arm band away from Terry after his infamous controversy about his personal life. Capello said he cannot let a man be the captain of his team who cannot control his personal life. Now after Terry making comments about his management style, the future of England defender is certainly not very clear in the team after the world cup.
Terry in a news conference said that his only intention was to speak his mind, and he had no means of undermining any one. Terry said when he was asked a question about his Chelsea team mate Joe Cole; he maybe took it a bit too far, which he should not have done. He said that upsetting the manager is not at all, what he wanted, and if he did, he would like to apologise. Terry went on to say that, he does not believe that he is a disruptive influence on the team, and the manager should know that he has his full support.
Now it remains to be seen if the manager will forgive Terry after this apology. While his team mates including Gerrard and Jamie Carragher are also believed to be quite upset, due to Terry implicating in his press conference that they were also with him in this motion. While Gerrard and Carragher have reiterated that, they were not behind Terry on that and that, the manager has their full support.
Apart from all of that, the Manager had admitted that there is some amount of tension in the squad. Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said that, he had talked to Wayne Rooney before the Algeria match, and he detected that his striker was under immense pressure, most of which was due to the high expectations the whole country has from him, Ferguson said that he did tell Rooney to relax and goals will come in time.
On Sunday after Terry’s press conference, Capello did hold a meeting with the team to discuss the match in Cape Town, during which Terry remained silent. Even though he had said that, he will voice his concerns. The Chelsea captain soon after his outburst in media had realised that he had little or no support from his team mates, or the backroom staff.
The next day Capello spoke to the media and said that, he does not understand why Terry said all of that, Capello said his door is always open for all players at all times, he keeps having regular talks with them, even Terry and him have had several talks but he did not say anything as such.
According to Capello, Terry should not have talked to the media because not just the manager, but a number of his team mates are also disappointed. Capello added that it is better to have a private session with players, or the manager. Rather than turning to the media to speak about the problems within the team, Capello said it was a mistake, big mistake.
Well since then Terry has apologised, but it is not yet clear if Capello actually took that and accepted his former captain’s words. If England win their final match and make it to the next round, things like this may die down. However, if they don’t, be sure to hear lot more on this, and Terry should be worried about his future with England, should Capello stay in charge.
