John Terry and Drogba hoping for Blues revival
Captain John Terry warned his side that they were far from over and done with their fight for the Premier League crown this season. Ivoirian striker Didier Drogba, on the other hand, has targeted three victories in their upcoming fixtures, which could yet
salvage their season. Despite an amazing start, the Blues have had a slump in form. They have managed to win just two matches out of eight in all competitions. They were eliminated from the Carling Cup and now seem to be out of the title race, having lost
first place to Arsenal.
The poor form coincidentally occurred around the same time assistant coach Ray Wilkins was removed. However, Blues manager Carlo Ancelotti insisted that his sudden removal had nothing to do with the recent poor performances. Chelsea prepare to take on a
resurgent Tottenham away, at White Hart Lane, this Sunday. They will welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge the next week and then travel to Emirates Stadium to take on league leaders Arsenal.
Arsenal are point ahead of Manchester United at the top of the Premier League, who have a game in hand. They face each other over the weekend and the Blues will be hoping for a draw, the most favourable outcome for them. He said,
“It's not getting any easier because we have Tottenham next. Maybe everyone will expect us to lose on Sunday, but it could be different. I see Tottenham as genuine title rivals now. They are having a good season and there is no reason why they can't challenge.
Chelsea used to beat them regularly but things change, that's life, but it is up to us to make it happen again.”
Didier Drogba was certain that the upcoming three games would decide his side’s future and most probably the title race. He was wary of the timing of the crucial fixtures, he added, “Obviously these three games are not coming at the right time for us,
but maybe these matches will change the situation we're in now if we win them. It's not finished yet. It's a difficult moment for us, but this is the kind of thing that can happen to many teams and it's rare for Chelsea to have a period like this and I hope
it's going to get better.”
John Terry showed exceptional leadership qualities and proved just why he had the armband when he insisted that his side would not give up without a fight. He admitted that Ancelotti’s side had been going through a tough time, he said,
“We won't fold. No chance. I certainly won't, the manager won't and we have big characters like Didier Drogba and Florent Malouda, who have been at the very top for the right reasons. They are world-class players and big characters. It is time for us all
to stand up.”
The England international was aware that the upcoming fixtures would be tough on his side, but was confident in his side’s ability to get past them. He continued,
“These are tough games coming up but we have big players here. Hopefully they are prepared to rise to the challenge and put their necks on the line. The players realize that if we don't start winning again soon then we are going to be giving the title away
to our rivals. I am certainly not letting my head go down. I will get everyone going and I will keep doing that right to the end.”
He pointed out that the important thing for the squad was to stay focused and work hard to winning games, he added,
“We've probably not suffered a blip like this in 11 years at the club and it's obviously hard to take after so many years of winning week after week. Nobody can say they are playing particularly well at the moment so we are not going to be pointing fingers
or digging each other out. But the more worried and stressed you get, the harder it becomes. So now it's all about staying together and believing in each other.”
