John Terry and Frank Lampard set for Chelsea return
Injured Chelsea duo John Terry and Frank Lampard are set for a quick return to the English Premier League giants. The pair may even play a part in Saturday’s league clash against West Ham United.
Terry and Lampard missed out on Fabio Capello’s England national side playing Bulgaria and Switzerland in UEFA 2012 European Football Championship qualifying matches after respectively suffering a hamstring problem and having to undergo an operation to the groin.
Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti told his club’s official website that he may have his captain and vice-captain back for Saturday’s game, though he was more optimistic about Terry than Lampard. He said that: “Lampard had surgery on Tuesday and I think that he will start to train this week. I don't know when but we will see how he trains and we will take a decision for the game against West Ham. Terry didn't have surgery but he used the last week to improve his hamstring. He will start to train with the squad this week and I think he will be able to play against West Ham.”
Started in last match
Both players started in the 2-0 win over Stoke City on 28 august, Chelsea’s last match in the league before the international break.
The reigning EPL champions have made a sensational start to the new campaign, picking up nine points out of nine. They have put six goals past West Bromwich Albion and Wigan Athletic each, while the defence, marshaled by Terry, have yet to concede a single goal in the league this season.
Lampard has opened his account for the season after netting in the opening-day demolition of West Brom, and will be keen to score more goals as Chelsea try to retain their EPL crown and win the UEFA Champions League for the first time.
