As a result of the red Card, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international won’t be able to make an appearance in the finals of the tournament, despite the defender being one of the crucial members of the team, that helped them make it all the way to the final.
The defender was shown a straight red in the game, after he was spotted using his knee to take out http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alexis-Sánchez-c4979 in the 37th minute of the game.
The centre back has gone on to admit that he is sorry for what he did, but admitted that perhaps his red card was justified.
He also insisted that what he did was accidental and that he didn’t mean to put his knee into Sanchez’s back, in the manner that he did.
When talking about the incident, Terry is reported to have said: "Sanchez was darting in behind me at the time. I've seen the replay and it does look bad but I'm not the kind of player to intentionally hurt anyone"
"I've raised my knee which maybe I shouldn't have done in hindsight. Hopefully the people out there who know me as a player and a person know I'm not that kind of player.”
He then admitted that he felt like he had let everyone down and felt the need to apologize to his team mates and to the fans of the club, who rely on him.
"I feel like I've let my team-mates down and I've apologised to them and I want to apologise to the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 fans as well. “
"I don't have any complaints about the red card. At the time I was bewildered because I was trying to protect myself a little bit but looking at it on the replay it does look like a red card.”
Chelsea must now try and evolve their tactics for the final game of the Champions League and look at potential players who might be able to replace Terry in the heart of their defence.
