John Terry could be out for months
Chelsea captain John Terry could be out of the game for months due to a nerve injury in his leg.
Terry admitted to being in agony after games after missing Sunday's 3-0 defeat to Sunderland on 13 November. He will also miss England's mid-week game against France.
"I have been struggling with a nerve pain coming from the top of my leg down to my hamstring and to the outside of
my calf. It started towards the end of last season, but with Chelsea being in the mix until the day of the FA Cup final, I didn't have the chance to rest," Terry said
in The Daily Mail.
Terry says the problem was enhanced because he has had hardly any time to rest, going straight
to the World Cup with England after the close of last season. As a result, he has been forced to play through the pain barrier on routine occasions, worsening
the injury.
"I had three weeks' rest after that and thought I would come back without
it, but since then it has got worse and worse. It is at a point where I can't carry on with it. I used to be able to make it through games because the adrenaline gets
going and you blank the pain out."
Terry has admitted there is absolutely no chance he will return to action in the immediate future. Chelsea medics have advised him to get the problem sorted out, but with
fellow central defender Alex also out of action, there is a real weakness in the Chelsea back four.
"I need to take a few weeks' rest, see a couple of specialists and solve the
problem."
Betting advice
The effect of not having Terry in the back four was demonstrated during the match against Sunderland. Be a little wary with Chelsea over the next few games. When Alex returns,
and ultimately Terry, expect the team to concede fewer goals.
