John Terry looking to lead England in the 2012 Euro, confident about http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097’s return
England and Chelsea skipper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895 revealed it was his dream to lead the England national team to the final of the 2012 European competition. The central defender has never captained his country in a major tournament, always missing out for one reason
or another.
Terry missed out on the opportunity in 2008 when England failed to qualify for the Euro that year and was unfortunately stripped of the captaincy in time for the 2010 World Cup in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757. He has since then been reinstated as the captain and is determined
to lead his side to the final of the upcoming Euro.
Terry said in an interview:
“It is obviously my dream to take the England side into a big and major tournament.
Personally that is my aim, but collectively the team is the priority and whether that is a draw or a win we have to do the right thing tomorrow.”
England are scheduled to take on Montenegro in, a game where they will need just one point to qualify for the Euro. However, Terry confirmed his side would be going into the game with a winning mentality and would be aiming for all three points.
After a disappointing World Cup, the England team has recovered according to the 30-year-old defender and is fully prepared for the 2012 Euro. Terry revealed his side were confident ahead of the clash with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Montenegro-c2959, but expected a tough challenge.
Terry spoke of his England colleagues, Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard, both of whom have not featured for England regularly because of different reasons. While the Manchester United defender has been struggling with fitness, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 teammate Lampard has
been left out due to poor form.
Ferdinand has not recovered and is still sidelined, which means he will not be featuring for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749. However, Terry was confident the Red Devils central defender would soon return for his club and country and hailed him as one of the best defenders in the
world.
He revealed:
“I am 100 per cent sure that Rio can come back. He has not been fully fit but when he plays he is still one of the best defenders in the world without a doubt.”
He had similar views about the 33-year-old midfielder, who has been in terrific form for the Blues recently. Terry revealed he believed Lampard would go on to feature for England in the future, especially with the recent improvement the midfielder had shown.
Terry admitted:
“I have been very pleased, but I am not surprised at all - but at times you get left out and you prove your character and prove yourself, but I knew he would and he will continue to do that for a long time.”
