John Terry pleased with clean sheet in the Champions League
Chelsea captain John Terry said he was glad to have kept a clean sheet during the team's Champions League encounter with Olympique de Marseille on Tuesday evening, but added that his side can still improve
on its performance.
The London club went into the game on the back of a Carling Cup exit to Newcastle last week and a 1–0 defeat to Manchester City in the Premier League over the weekend.
With seven minutes gone, Terry opened the scoring with a neat finish before Nicolas Anelka added a second from the penalty spot 21 minutes later.
"We were obviously disappointed with losing the game [to City] and come here with two losses which is very unusual for us," Terry told Sky Sports of Chelsea's recent run. "We've come here put on a good
show, keep a clean sheet, pick up three points and extended that lead at the top of the group as well."
Missed chances in the second half
While happy to have collected three points in his 79th European appearance for Chelsea, Terry could not help but rue some of his team's missed chances in the second half.
Midway through the half, defender Alex Rodrigo Dias da Costa hit a free kick against Steve Mandanda's post, while Michael Essien also found the upright in the 74th minute.
"In the second half we had chances to make it three or four but fair play to them they came out and we didn't start the brightest second half. We would have liked to have go on further and really killed
the game off but it wasn't to be. They had a lot of possession but we got players in behind the ball, worked hard and kept another clean sheet which we have been doing of late."
Carlo Ancelotti's team host Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, where a win would leave the team top of the table over the ensuing international break.
