http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, the defending Champions of the English Premier League, started the current season as they ended the last, which was by hammering in goals right left and centre. The first few games suggested that it would be difficult for teams like Manchester United
and Arsenal to even come close to them. However as Chelsea began to lose steam, Manchester United caught up and as it stands, United are on top of the table with Chelsea on 4th spot.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Captain-c8314 of Chelsea is not very happy about how his team has surrendered the top spot, and believes that the problem lies in the overall squad of Chelsea. Terry thinks that the squad is not as strong as it used to be to deal with all the commitments
of the club.
The defending champions have not been able to get a win in the last 5 league games, which has a lot to do with the fact that players like John Terry, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 have all been out of the team for long periods of time.
Which has affected the results and in turn means that there are no suitable and capable covers for such players in the squad.
"In the past, we had a big squad and could rotate and put other players in," Terry, 30, told the Chelsea website.
"We don't have that now, we have quite a young squad and it's a time for us all to stay together like we will."
All 3 players mentioned are expected to be fit in time for the all important game against Arsenal on Monday. The team manager Carlo Ancelotti believes that with all his key players back his team would be able to get back on track to winning the title once
again.
Ancelotti said that with the number of players out injured, he could not put out a strong enough squad that he would have liked. He added that this resulted in his team slipping from top of the table to 4th place in the last seven matches. Chelsea
has won just one game out of these seven and now looks determined to get their title defence back on track.
Chelsea manager went on to say that he does have talented young players in the squad, but it is better to blood them in when the team is doing well. He said that the added pressure on such youngsters can have a negative affect if the team is under pressure
and underperforming. He went on to say that his team has put the last month and a half behind them and are making a fresh start. The Italian said that the busy Christmas season would test all the top teams and would mean that whoever has the ability to grind
it out in these couple of weeks would be able to take hold of the league table.
The Blues would take on Bolton just a couple of days after taking on Arsenal; once again, considering there would barely be 48 hours between the 2 matches, it would be a great test of mental and physical toughness of the team.
Carlo Ancelotti, though, is not very happy with the busy schedule and believes that back to back matches do not give the players enough time to recuperate. He added that there is no balance in the fixtures. Ancelotti mentioned that they play Bolton on the
29th after playing Arsenal on the 27th, which gives them just 2 days, while Bolton played their last match on the 26th which gives them 3 days to recover. So there is no balance to it all.
