John Tortorella confident of Rick Nash, terms him to be perfect for New York Rangers -NHL Update
Rick Nash and John Tortorella might not even have met in person yet, but the head coach of New York Rangers is definitely confident of his former Columbus Blue Jackets captain and veteran left winger for sure.
Tortorella was talking to the Blueshirts United website on Thursday, August 16, 2012.
"The thing I like about Nash -- and I haven't even met him face to face -- in one conversation with him, he's all business," Tortorella said. "Everyone I have talked to about him says he's not a real high-maintenance guy -- [he] wants to play hard, wants
to play every day and practice every day. I think we have him at a really good time in his career, and I think he's going to fit in with us tremendously."
Obviously, grabbing Rick Nash and carrying on with his humongous contract for the next number of National Hockey League (NHL) regular seasons was not an easy achievement, since it came after due home work and planning.
We did some homework on Nash -- [Brad Richards] knows him a little bit, I talked to other players in the League and to coaches that have coached him -- and it is the right fit," Tortorella added. "And it is the right time of his career to be here. I think
he has the hunger to get there and become that go-to guy in the playoffs."
Rick Nash is a former first overall pick by Columbus back in round-one of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. In 674 career games played up until now, the veteran has 289 goals, 258 assists and 547 points in total along with 568 minutes in the penalty box.
With Columbus, the veteran was eventually going to lose his charm as his performance dropped with each season along with the fact that he was unable to take Blue Jackets to a postseason.
Next season with the New York Rangers, will be crucial for Rick Nash as he will definitely work towards achieving hockey greatness and eventually, a Stanley Cup championship, making it exciting to follow the player for sure.
