John Wall and the Washington Wizards run riot over the Big Three less Miami Heat 104-70 - NBA Recap
With the big three of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh missing in action, the Washington Wizards made the most of this opportunity by running riot over the Miami Heat with a score line of 104-70 here at the Verizon Center
in Washington on Thursday night.
John Wall, despite scoring a low number of 7 points in the game did his damage in the distribution of the ball by dishing out a game high of 12 assists in the game. Maurice Evans was the standout player from the Wizards side, who
recorded a game high of 18 points while coming off the bench.
Nene carried the bench scoring as well by mustering up 15 points along with 7 rebounds. Kevin Seraphin also played well ending the night with 15 points as for the Wizards, who got 12 and 11 points from Cartier Martin and Jan Vesely
respectively. Vesely also had 8 rebounds and made three steals.
This win for the Wizards extended their winning streak to six games, the longest for them since November 2007.
With their stars not playing, Miami had to struggle throughout the night to find that offensive explosiveness. Rookie guard, Norris Cole came off the bench to lead them in scoring with 14 points while Eddy Curry was the only starter
on the night scoring double digits with 10 points.
Washington held an upper hand in the rebounding aspect 43-31. They also made their presence felt from inside the paint, outscoring the Heat 56-26. However the key figure which led to Miami’s downfall was their high number of 22
turnovers in the game. Off these 22 turnovers, Wizards were able to notch up 33 points which helped a lot in their surge to victory.
In the opening 4 and half minutes of the game, there was not much to separate the two teams and at the 7:37 mark, Miami were only down by two. However the Wizards managed to go on an 8-0 run in the next several minutes to put some
daylight between them and their opponents.
After the first twelve minutes, the home side was able to lead with double figures, the scores being 28-18.
The onslaught continued on in the second quarter with the Wizards converting on almost every possession. Washington, were able to quickly take their lead to 21 points courtesy of 19-8 by the 4:40 mark. The offensive dominance went
on for the remaining time in the first half and by the end of first two quarters; the scores were 57-32 in Wizards favour.
This surge of extremely efficient display on the offensive end progressed on for the Wizards and by the 5:50 mark in the third period; they were able to aggrandize their lead to a high number of 31 points. The lead remained above
that mark and by the time third quarter was over, the score was 50-80.
Leading by an ample margin, Washington would have been extended to ease up in the final quarter; however, this was not the case tonight. They continued their dominance in that frame as well and at one point were able to prolong
their lead to as much as 38 points.
In the end, Curry and Cole did chip a small amount of the lead; however it did not make any difference as they took a 34 point drubbing by the hands of the Wizards.
