John Wall backs selection of Bradley Beal by Washington Wizards with 3rd pick – NBA Update
Washington Wizards star John Wall has welcomed the decision of the franchise to pounce for Bradley Beal with the 3rd overall pick at the 2012 NBA Draft. The Wizards picked up Beal after New Orleans Hornets selected Anthony Davis with the first
pick and Charlotte Bobcats went for Michael Kidd-Gilchrist with the second.
John Wall was drafted first overall by the Wizards back in 2010 but the franchise has struggled despite the young star finely coming along. The Wizards point guard though is now confident of a promising future for the franchise with the arrival of the 6-foot-3
guard out of Florida and praised the management for a job well done.
“I think he’s a great pick,” said Wall. “The organization, the owner and GM did a great job. I’m glad we had the opportunity to pick him.”
Wall noted that Beal had many attributes, not least of which was the ability to score and spread the defence, which will make his task all the easier.
“He’s somebody that can makes shots, help spread the court for you. You can’t say what to expect from him right away, but I think he’ll come in and help us out a lot.”
Wall is expected to remain the point guard of choice at Washington with Beal vying for the shooting guard spot with Jordan Crawford. Crawford came into his own last season and cemented his place in the side, so much so that Nick Young was traded away by
the Wizards.
However, instead of looking at Wall and Crawford as competition, Bradley expressed his wish to see the three young players’ blossom together for the betterment of the franchise.
“I think it’ll be terrific. J-Wall and Crawford are both great players. He can create for himself and Crawford can put the ball in the rim,”
The Wizards have also acquired the services of centre Emeka Okafor and small forward Trevor Ariza in a trade. The move was aimed at strengthening a leaky defence and with the addition of Beal they would be hoping to balance that with some offensive sparks.
