John Wall booed by fans in a pro-am game in North Carolina – NBA Update
Washington Wizards point guard, John Wall, was in action late Wednesday night, as he was part of the Triangle-G team which took on Team Jamison at the SJG Pro-Am in North Carolina. Wall and his Triangle-G eventually fell just short
as the game ended 68-65 in favour of Team Jamison.
Wall scored a game high 36 points and put in a splendid performance throughout. However, the strange thing about the game was the constant booing which Wall received from the North Carolina natives. Being a North Carolina native
himself, Wall was extremely puzzled and affected by the event.
"Heard a had a lot of boos and haters out there tonight," Wall wrote on Twitter. "But thanks, y'all give me more motivation to keep working."
As of now, it is unclear as to why John was subjected to such harsh treatment. However, it prompted a direct response from the rising star. "It amazes me what I try to do for my hometown and get treated," Wall tweeted. "But that's
how it goes in life. Glad I know who my family, brothers and real friends are. Love y'all we on the way to the top."
The mystery is even greater considering Walls’ personality and previous track record. He is usually known for his humble attitude and his willingness to help younger developing players.
Considering his disciplinary record, there is hardly any trace of misconduct, with only one minor run in with the law back in high school. Hence, the whole incident was probably due to jealously or merely for rooting against the
NBA star.
However, Wall formerly attended the University of Kentucky for one season of college hoops and when he showed interest in the University of North Carolina, it was not reciprocated.
Overall, the game was a closely fought contest, with Team Jamison keeping a narrow lead throughout the fourth quarter. Despite a valiant effort by the Washington guard, his performance was not enough to lift his team.
Although in the absence of the NBA season these are the only platforms where pros like Wall get to display their game, such reactions might prompt players to stop playing such exhibition games as well.
The negative response shown by the crowd last night might be in retaliation to the lockout itself. The fans are not too happy over the presiding situation and want to see the players reach an agreement with the National Basketball
Association, so that the season can get started.
The players have a huge role in the lockout. If the players accept contracts featuring slightly lesser salary, the whole issue could be resolved and the fans will get what they want.
