John Wall of Washington Wizards cleared to increase physical activity – NBA Update
When the Washington Wizards drafted Bradley Beal with their third pick this summer, there were many pundits who portrayed the capital city team as one of the few sides with an X-factor.
That assessment was to go wrong pretty soon. At the start of September, Wall, the number one draft pick of 2010 started feeling pain in his left knee and on the 28th of the month; the team officially announced that their
star point guard had a stress injury to his left knee cap. The recovery time for the ailment was supposed to be around two months. But, nearly three months on, Wall is nowhere close to returning on the court. The best news which the Wizards got came recently
when Dr. David Altchek, the doctor who is responsible for the point guard’s recovery, announced that the player can now slowly ramp up his physical activities;
"He will continue to be evaluated on an ongoing basis," Altchek said in a statement released by the team.
Altchek also revealed that there is still some irritation in Wall’s knee.
Franchise coach Randy Wittman addressed the issue before his side took on the Los Angeles Lakers.
"The doctor saw improvement, and the shot he got, after a couple days here of letting that take its effect, he can ramp things up again," Wittman said. "He's got to get back out now and get on the floor. Not practice, not contact
yet. We have to see how he responds to his activity as it's ramped up."
Asked for more specifics, Wittman replied: "He's going to go out on the floor. He's going to run, shoot. No contact. That's ramping it up."
Wall had so far been restricted to shooting only, and as he recovered the Wizards slumped to the worst record in the league. They started off 0-12 and after the loss against the Lakers, are sitting at the bottom of the Eastern
Conference and the league at 3-17. The guard led Washington in points, assists and steals last season and to say that the team needs him desperately will be an understatement.
