John Wall of Washington Wizards nowhere near to making a return from knee surgery – NBA Update
A quarter of the season is gone; Washington Wizards have only won 2 games and it is fair to say that the season it gone for them, even if their star point guard John Wall makes a swift return.
The point is that he is not making a return any time soon. As per their head coach Randy Wittman, the number one pick of the 2010 draft is weeks away from return.
“We’re not hiding anything here. Obviously, we need John. We want John. I want John yesterday, but you’ve got to keep moving forward. That’s what we’re doing here and trying to do here.”
“We’re going to look at a lot of different things,” Wittman added. “John’s bearing doesn’t play with that because John’s still some weeks from getting on the floor and practicing. So if we were really strapped we’d bring someone in.”
Wall had suffered a stress injury in his left knee just before the start of the season, and after undergoing a knee surgery, he was expected to be fit in approximately 8 weeks. However 10 weeks on, there are still no signs of Wall making a return. What’s worse is that he has not even started the basic of conditioning drills.
That pretty much ensures that Wall will not be returning before the All-Star Weekend. As such, there is no need for the Wizards to push his return.
Although it is still early days in the season, the Wizards are already down and out and it will need a miracle for them to win two consecutive games, let alone mount a winning streak of some order – if you are still not sure, consider the maximum of 14.2 points by any Wizards player so far this season. The best way for them at the moment is to let John recover completely and even if he is to make a comeback, the regular season games should be used to pace his conditioning.
Wizards are at present at the bottom of the Eastern Conference and the logical thing for them is to start building for the 2013 draft. May be if they add one more piece alongside Wall and Bradley Beal, the resurgence might finally start.
