John Wall says big names of the league should join the CBA talks with owners: NBA Update
Washington Wizards point guard John Wall, who is currently participating in the Impact Basketball Competitive Series near a strip to the Las Vegas has urged NBA megastars to throw their weight in the labour talks. According to
Wall, that the need of the hour is that Big names like Miami Heat All-Star LeBron James and Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant should come forward and talk with the owners face on.
“I think we’re going to have to have guys like Kobe [Bryant], LeBron, the face of the NBA, to step up and say something. Derek Fisher and those guys are doing a great job, but I just want it to be over. I can’t really say too much.
I only have one year under my belt. . . . I just want to sit back, learn and listen and see what’s going on during the meetings.”
It’s been more than two and half months since the league imposed the lockout on the players. So far there is no positive development on the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. Infect the bitterness between the players union and
franchise owners is increasing with each meeting.
What Wall had pin pointed in this interview, was already suggested by many NBA analysts because when the lockout had struck the league for the first time in 1998 the big stars eventually decided to negotiate with the owners and
it worked for them.
Previous season was Wall’s first season in the league and big names of the league should listen to his appeal. Because Kobe and others big stars said on number of occasions that they are supporting the players union to get a better
deal for the young players, who had just stared their professional career.
While there is also another group which believes that with the enrolment of the big players in the labour talks the procedure of talks could be derailed and at this stage the league can afford to have situation like National Football
League. Because if the talks are discontinued then there will be only one option left for the players to do that is decertification of the union.
In this scenario the players would drag the league in the court of law on individual basis. This will make the things even worse just like NFL so the big stars should stay out of this.
However, only the time will tell whether big players inclusion in the CBA talks will remain fruitful or not.
