John Wall undergoes his first on-court drill post knee injury; Randy Wittman excited – NBA Update
The Washington Wizards are 3-23 into the season and it is fair to say that their season is lost.
There is simply no way that the Wizards can make it into the playoffs from this position, yet such is the desperation of Randy Wittman, the Wizards head coach, that he wants to insert his star point guard John wall into the lineup
at the first opportunity he gets.
Wall suffered a knee surgery just before the start of the season and in his absence, the Wizards have appeared listless than ever before. Sure, they have lost some close games, but through most of the 23 defeats, their slackness
has been the main reason.
Nearly two weeks back Wall, Wizards’ leading scorer and playmaker last season had revealed that he might be able to start light practise if his knee responds well after the swelling subsides. He still had some irritation in his
knee cap and took three lubricating injection at that time.
On Thursday, the point guard returned to the court for the first time in months, and participated in non-contact drills. That happened a day after Wall had said that he would be on the court within a month.
Wittman when asked about the guard’s position on the comeback was excited;
“God, I hope so,” Wittman said Thursday after watching Wall participate in his first “dummy” practice with the Wizards.
“I’m glad he’s thinking that. He did dummy with us today with the group for the first time. That’s a step forward. Obviously, no contact yet, but he did full speed up and down with the dummy stuff we ran and that’s the first time
he’s done that with the team. That’s a step in that direction.”
The Wizards have had number of high draft picks in the last few years, but have so far failed to assemble a successful young team which can realistically pose a playoff threat. Bradley Beal, who was selected as the number third
draft pick, has impressed, but has so far failed to inspire the team which also has a player like Nene Hilario. Wall’s injection late into the season, can give this team a boost, but the Wizards should ideally be more worried about the next season, rather
than this one.
