John Wall’s 38 points go to waste; Houston Rockets beat Washington Wizards 114-106 - NBA Recap
Washington Wizards dreadful run in the 2011-12 NBA season does not look like ending any time soon.
They have the league’s worst record and just few hours ago, they exacerbated it further by collecting their 12th defeat of the season at the hands of Houston Rockets, at the Verizon Center.
If their previous losses were due to their poor offense, this one was the result of over aggressiveness.
Wizards were trying to be way too flamboyant tonight and that is what hurt them in the end. They missed a lot of easy baskets in trying to make an impression.
JaVale McGee was amongst the guilty players who, at a crucial stage, opted for a highlight reel making play when he could have easily netted one through a dunk or layup, epitomizing his team’s woes.
Admitting his mistake and dishing out the particulars for his move, he exclaimed.
"Apparently if you get a fast break and throw it off the backboard in the third quarter and you're 1-11, you're not supposed to do stuff like that. I feel like I was trying to get the team hyped and make a good play. I felt like we did that - and we went on a run there,"
Overall, Wizards were not too bad and displayed accurate shooting.
John Wall led the team with an amazing effort, scoring a game high 38 points on 13 for 22 from the floor, collecting 6 rebounds and dishing out 8 assists. Reserve Jordan Crawford pounded 17 points, Nick Young had 13 and Andray Blatche completed a double-double by scoring 11 points and forcing 12 boards.
Kevin Martin starred for the Rockets as he drained 25 points on an accurate 10 for 10 from the free throw line whereas Samuel Dalembert chipped in with 20. Luis Scola and Kyle Lowry both struggled with their shooting throughout but ended with 18 and 16 points respectively.
First half of the game was highly competitive and ended at 58-54 in favour of the Rockets. In the third frame, Rockets changed gears and rattled a game changing 16-4 run, after the scores were 64-60, to push the game away from the Wizards. Lowry and Dalembert then scored quickly in the last few minutes to ensure the massive lead remained intact.
Wall and Blatche put up a good fight in the deciding quarter, but the deficit that had built up at the end of the third quarter proved too much and therefore, despite outscoring the Rockets 31-23 in the frame, Wizards still fell short by 8 points.
