John Wes Townley gets seat with Red Horse Racing in 2013 season – NASCAR news
For the 2013 Camping World Truck Series, John Wes Townley or ‘Chicken Man’ a nickname that Townley got courtesy his sponsorship by Zaxby's fast-food chicken restaurant, will race with Red Horse Racing in the 2013 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season.
In the 2012 season, Townley raced with RAB Racing but in the 2013 season, Townley has decided to try Red Horse Racing as his team. This decision was prompted by the success that Red Horse has been able to achieve in the recent Truck Series season.
“I'm a competitive race car driver, and I want to race and compete for wins,” Townley said. “Red Horse Racing has worked hard and continues to excel in the truck series. The success that this Red Horse Racing organization was able to accomplish last season,
is the same success we are looking forward to next year.”
Red Horse Racing won 5 races in the 2012 Camping World Truck Series and their driver Timothy Peters finished the series winning a silver medal with 802 points in drivers’ standings, only 6 points behind the series champion James Buescher. In the upcoming
season, the task at hand for Red Horse Racing is to further improve their performance and to improve Townley as a driver.
With 2012 statistics of 2 top-10 finishes out of 21 races for RAB racing, Townley is far away from being a championship driver and there is a lot of work that still needs to be done.
However, according to team owner Tom De Loch, Townley has shown improvement in his racing techniques during the past season and Red Horse Racing will be working on further improving Townley’s performance on the track.
DeLoch said, “John showed vast improvement on the track this past season and Red Horse Racing is eager to move him to the next level in his racing career.”
Only Townley’s performance in the upcoming season will determine the level of improvement that the 22-year-old has achieved but one thing is certain though. He has improved in avoiding crashes. Considering that Townley has a history of DNF’s, Townley only
crashed out of 2 races in 2012 which by all means is an improvement.
Townley will be driving the No. 7 truck in the upcoming Camping World Truck Series, No. 7 being the same truck racing which John King and Parker Kligerman won races last year.
