John Wright hints at playing an extra batsman at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wellington-c864 –Cricket News Update
New Zealand coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 starting at the Basin Reserve, Wellington on Friday, March 23, 2012.
Speaking to media reporters ahead of the third Test of the three-match series, the Kiwis coach said that his side has been struggling for runs in the last two Tests, hence the team management and the selectors are mulling over including an extra batsman
to the Wellington Test playing XI.
"That [playing another batsmen] is something we will strongly consider because we haven't been getting enough runs," said the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 coach, John Wright. "We've looked short at times and have had a long tail," he added further.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dean-Brownlie-c1349 have both come into the squad for the final Test. The 26-year-old Flynn, who returns to the national side after a gap of almost two years, is a specialist middle order batsman. He has been batting at No. 5 in the Plunket Shield
this season, and he batted in the middle order during his stint with the Kiwis. But Wright has tipped him to open the innings for the hosts this Friday, adding that the left-hander himself is keen to bat at the top.
"He's earned his place on form; I know he's keen to eventually bat at the top of the order," said Wright.
Flynn played 16 Tests for the Black Caps between May 2008 and December 2009, scoring 689 runs, including four half centuries. He last played for the Kiwis in their home Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in December 2009.
Earlier, the national selection manager Kim Littlejohn also revealed that the 26-year-old left-hander will make a comeback into the squad, and he will partner Guptill at the top.
"Daniel Flynn is having a very successful Plunket Shield with the bat for Northern and is likely to join http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Guptill-c1980 at the top of the order," Kim Littlejohn had said on Sunday. "He was part of the team in late 2009 and we are sure he will make the most
of his opportunity to again represent his country,” the NZC selection manager hoped.
New Zealand trail the three-match series 0-1 and will be hoping to tie the series at 1-1 with a win at Wellington.
