New Zealand’s batsmen got a stern warning from their coach John Wright that they need to bat well in the second Test match against Pakistan.
“We’ve got to try and get that top order functioning better,” Wright told the reporters.
When he was asked about what he told his team after the first Test match, the coach replied, “bat time.”
Pakistan won the first of the two-match Test match series convincingly by ten wickets. The visitors bowled out the hosts for 110 in their second innings and only required 19 runs to win the game, which they chased down without losing any wicket.
The Kiwi top order failed to perform in the second innings and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Only Brendon McCullum was able to put up some sort of resistance as he scored 35 runs.
“Whatever we plan, and they’re pretty simple plans, we’ve got to be disciplined enough to get the job done,” Wright admitted.
The batting collapse was lamented by Captain Daniel Vettori as well. However, he later supported the batting order, stating that they had all performed in November 2010 when they toured http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
Wright also supported the squad and said that the New Zealand cricket has the potential to learn from their mistakes and the “real inner desire to personally succeed.”
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 squad for the second Test match saw the return of all-rounder James Franklin who could not play the first Test match due to his domestic commitments.
This will potentially work for New Zealand as the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wellington-c864 groundsman Brett Sipthorpe stated that the pitch will provide more pace and bounce than Hamilton. It is therefore likely that Franklin will replace Tim McIntosh in the playing eleven.
Wright did not comment on the batting order and said it will be decided on the match day according to the pitch.
The second Test match will begin on Saturday, 15 January, 2011 and the Kiwis will be working hard to square the two match series.
