on the episode, do you think part of the script or something was planned to have a crab creep them out when they were at the beach

I don't think so.

Crabs are just common on beaches, and the Gosselins are a (somewhat) regular family; I know my family would put a crab in a bucket and watch it if we noticed one on the beach.

nah, i dont think that was scripted i think they just really did find a crab and put it in the bucket and jon was messing around trying to scare kate with it and it just got loose and they were all scared. if i saw that running towards me i'd freak too, but if it was in a container i would just think its cute and look at it lol xp

No it's not scripted! Everything they do on the show is not scripted at all and Kate and the kids were like really scared of the crab because John released it out of the bucket. So it was there idea to have the crab and Kate and the kids WERE creeped out!
