    The above explains a direct object.

    Your direct object is Kevin. You have "John doesn't like Kevin."

    That's not what you mean.

    Your direct object should be, "smoking."

    You should have "John doesn't like smoking."

    John -- Subject

    doesn't like -- verb

    smoking -- direct object

    in the bathroom -- preposition that describes (where) smoking

    by Kevin -- preposition that describes (who is) smoking

    John doesn't like smoking by Kevin in the bathroom.

    John doesn't like smoking in the bathroom by Kevin.

    I am not sure, but I think either of the above would work. It's been a long time since I've diagrammed sentences.
