  1. Elway had the strongest arm of the players you mention. He used to throw so hard his receivers used to talk about the cross on their chest from the imprint from the tip of the ball when it hit their body. He was also able to throw the ball 70+ yards in the air. Favre had a strong arm also. He had to, to set all of the records he set. Cutler still has to prove himself, but I like what I see so far.

  2. Well we can throw out Cutler right away. He has great distance on his throws, but not the same velocity as Favre and Elway.

As for Favre and Elway, it's a very close call but I'm going with Favre over Elway. We all know about the stories of his passes breaking receivers fingers, and the power he puts behind it. But two highlights come to my mind to show the arm strength of Favre:

First, the one we've all seen on those NFL Flims highlights, in the 1993 Wild Card game against the Lions, we see Favre roll all the far side field numbers, and with one sudden movement, he turns his hips, and flings it ALL the way to the other side of the field, in the back of the end zone to Sterling Sharpe, while Sharpe was nearly 50 yards down field from the line of scrimmage, on the other side of the field.

The last one is one a lot of people don't remember or don't know at all. During one ESPN Monday Night game against the Seahawks, in a blizzard (yes it was 2006 in Seattle, not last years playoff game), they showed Favre gunning a pass down the sideline to Donald Driver, and on the radar gun it read 64 MPH. 64 MPH with a football at age 37 in a blizzard at the time, that just shows you what a rocket arm he's had throughout his career.

Elway had an absolute cannon for an arm as well, there's no doubt about that. But because of Brett's playing style, and how most of his throws are never with his feet or mechanics fully set, that just shows you how incredible his arm strength was.

  3. Arm strengh is very important for a quarterback.  I think Elway"s arm was stronger then Cutler but not stonger then Favres.

  4. Cutler...how dare you mention his name in the same conversation as Elway and Favre, Elway had a way stronger arm than Cutler ever will, but Favre still has the strongest arm, Favre's fastball has jammed many fingers, I don't recall Rod Smith or Ed McCaffrey ever talking about Elway popping their fingers, as often as Favre recievers say.
