  1. In response to the comment above, so Sarah Palin IS a feminist, after all. After days of hearing comments from conservatives about how she is "traditional" and not a feminist, someone finally admits that she is. How interesting.

  2. Women are the lowest on the totem pole no matter where you travel, is what that means, and yes I agree with that statement.

  3. In the 1970's when Lennon wrote that song, blacks were demanding full civil equality in America.  They coopted the word, which was previously used derogatorily by Southern whites.  Lennon wanted to make a point that women have been the most subjugated of all people in the world, for all times.  He used harsh language to shock people into listening.

  4. It's actually "Woman is..."

The song, written by Lennon, built upon the phrase spoken by Yoko Ono in a magazine interview, talking about the injustices done to women, in general, by society, in general.  Blacks were mistreated in many places around the world for being black, but women were universally mistreated, in Ono's opinion.

I was too young at the time to be able to discuss the subject intelligently.  I do not agree with it today.  Women are still mistreated (and so are men) and the treatment is the worst in the countries that practice Islam.  But you do not hear the radical feminists, supposedly the champions of downtrodden women everywhere, utter a peep about that.  Instead, they attack the forces of good that are fighting those forces of evil.  It's not about feminism, actually.  The radical feminsits are just one more wing of the hate America, anti-capitalist Socialist movement.

Sarah Palin is more of a feminist than Gloria Steinem and all of her acolytes combined.

  5. For the most part yes.  This was coined by Yoko back in 1969 in an interview that John later adapted to a song in 1972.  They were saying that women are basically treated unfairly and they were protesting.  Here is a link to John himself describing what he meant:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5lMxWWK2...
