Vitesse Arnhem head coach, John van den Brom, has admitted that his side performed impressively against AZ Alkmaar despite the match ending in a 2-2 stalemate. The two sides met at GelreDome Stadion on Sunday, April 1.
Although the Alkmaar outfit started the match brightly, it was the hosts who had an early opportunity to take the lead. However, Wilfried Bony headed over the crossbar from close range, much to the dismay of Van den Brom.
AZ gained control afterwards and took the lead in the 32nd minute through http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Guram-Kashia-c15392.
After the half-time break, the home side started better and went ahead with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Simon-Poulsen-c33562.
The momentum was with the visiting side, as they kept on putting immense pressure on the hosts, but their hopes of bagging all three points were heavily dented when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brett-Holman-c8047 received his marching orders following a second bookable offence.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vitesse-c40905 could have scored the winner after having numerical advantage on their opponents, but they failed to create anything of note and the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
Van den Brom was pleased with his side’s performance despite failing to bag all three points at the end.
“I have mixed feelings. I am very pleased with the way we played. We tried to put pressure on AZ, and fought hard to find a winner. It is a pity that we did not secure all three points. However, the way we conceded goals clearly depicted our lack of commitment
for three points”, the Dutch trainer was quoted as saying to the media.
The 45-year-old tactician went on to admit that his side failed to assert their authority after gaining numerical advantage and insisted that they played better against eleven men.
“We did not play well after Brett’s second yellow card. We failed to create chances and that is disappointing. We could have won the match that too against a top side, but we failed”, Van den Brom concluded.
