Johnathan Thurston shares his delight playing alongside Chris Sandow
While talking to the media reporters on December 27, New Indigenous All Stars captain Johnathan Thurston shared that he is looking forward to playing alongside Chris Sandow, who will be playing at the centre’s spot.
Expressing his views about it, Thurston said, “I’m really looking forward to playing with Chris Sandow – he certainly broke my heart in round 24 last year, so to play alongside him will be awesome. We don’t get to play alongside a lot of these boys, so it
means a lot to each person to play along these players – they are great players in their own right. It’s a good, fun and enjoyable week and that’s what it’s all about ... I’ve played a lot of footy with Greg (Inglis) and Hodgey (Justin Hodges) as well, so
it’s going to be fun.”
When the player was asked about his career move of supporting the No. 6 jersey permanently, he confirmed the news and said that he was looking forward to playing in that role. Also, he shared that during his childhood year, he had always played for number
6. Although, it has been a while since he played in that role, he wants his future to be in that on field position.
Taking over the founder and ex-captain of the Indigenous All Stars team, Preston Campbell, is a moment of pride for the player. He himself labelled it as an honourable feat for both himself and his family.
He continued and said that All Star is a lot more than just mere representation of one’s franchise. It is wonderful concept, through which one can represent one’s community, culture, people and family, he said. Thurston enjoys being part of it and says that
he wants to make the most of the given opportunity.
While sharing his views about the All Stars festival that will be featured a day prior to the Indigenous All Stars match at Skilled Park, Thurston added that the best part is the jersey presentation. Jerseys are handed out amid huge fan crowds.
He also added that he liked the Youth Summit where they talked about the choices that can change their lives altogether. He believes that this is a huge opportunity for him through which he can make a huge difference in the lives of the future bearer of
the Indigenous roots.
