Johnie Berntsson hopes for tough competition against Torvar Mirsky in Agro Gold Cup – Sailing news
Berntsson Sailing Team’s Johnie Berntsson secured a place in the finals of 2011 Agro Group Gold Cup at Hamilton in Bermuda, where the Swedish will be facing Australia’s Torvar Mirsky of The Wave, Muscat, in the final encounter. Berntsson defeated Francesco
Bruni of Bruni Racing by a score line of 3-1, while Mirsky made his way to the ultimate match after beating Phil Robertson of WAKA Racing by 3-0.
Weather conditions on the penultimate events at Hamilton, Bermuda, were quite strong which made racing a bit difficult. However, all four semi-finalists completed the races on time. The Swedish sailor is quite excited to have Mirsky against him in the final
clash and hopes the competition will be a lot more exciting than the semi-final.
While speaking to local media at the end of the semi-finals, Berntsson said, “A win is a win but it’s especially good when it’s against the top guys! Mirsky and his crew are really good – they’ve sailed the Tour for a few years so have experience and a talented
young team so tomorrow is going to be tough. But we’ve taken wins against them before so I’m confident we can come out on top.”
He added, “We’re hoping to make it through to the Monsoon Cup and the results here will really help us climb the Tour rankings. Hopefully we’ll go through to Malaysia and get some more points there.”
