Johnny Cueto excels as Cincinnati Reds surpass Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 – MLB Recap
Cincinnati Reds defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, September 25 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
Reds’ starter Johnny Cueto played a key role in his team’s win. He tossed seven solid innings and received only two runs and five hits along with a homer on his consistent 2.83 ERA. He remained confident on the mound and retired five Brewers’ batters.
"If I keep working and doing what I need to do, I should be OK, I thank God I've been able to put those bad starts behind me. I went back and watched some videos. I saw some problems and was able to correct them," Cueto said.
“He scared the daylights out of us when he came up limping while running the bases, but he was fine after that, He didn't want to come out after the seventh, but there's a risk-reward there, and we didn't think the risk was worth it," Bench coach Chris Speier said about the starter.
Along with starting pitcher Cueto, the Reds' relief pitchers also played well and earned a good victory.
They remained consistent with their fast pitching and never let the Brewers’ batters to dominate them during the entire game which eventually proved fruitful for them as they eased past their opponents with style.
Relief pitcher Jonathan Broxton pitched one inning and kept the Brewers’ batters under pressure by pitching fast and curving deliveries. He did not give any run or hit while he struck-out three batters and maintained his ERA at 2.25.
Closer Aroldis Chapman pitched the last important inning and showed his valour with great precision. He pitched one inning and did not receive any run or hit on his persistent 1.55 ERA.
Reds’ batters at the same time also played beautifully and maintain the right level of energy which proved to be the eventual winning strategy for the Cincinnati side.
Right fielder Jay Bruce batted four times and scored one run and smashed two hits along with an important RBI on his slugging percentage of .534.
