Johnny Miller, Nick Faldo and Brandel Chamblee talk about McIlroy-Fowler rivalry – Golf News
Right after Rickie Fowler defeated Rory McIlroy in the Wells Fargo Championship with a birdie on the first extra hole in the playoffs, a debate started whether this was the beginning of a rivalry between the two players.
To know more about it, Johnny Miller, Nick Faldo and Brandel Chamblee were interviewed regarding their comments for both the players.
According to Miller, Fowler always looks emotionally under control and one cannot tell from his expressions if he makes a bad shot.
Therefore, he always puts pressure on his rivals with his confident-looking face and a great ball-striking technique.
Miller believes that the key to Fowler’s success is his natural playing style, and he never tries to out in any unnecessary extra effort to avoid spoiling his game.
On the other hand, he told that he was greatly impressed by McIlroy because of his ability to gain huge distances and maintain his tempo on the course.
Moreover, he loves the sport and tries to give his best whenever he enters the course. Therefore, he has a great future ahead of him.
“I would lean on Rory as being the guy in the future, if he has the drive,” Miller said. “I get the sense that the Irish players, when they win, like Darren Clarke, [Graeme] McDowell, whatever, when they win the majors, it's party time a little bit”.
Faldo said that Fowler has at last broken the ice and is ready to make his move in the golfing world.
He had been continuously working hard and the time has now come that he gets his reward.
“These guys are going to start looking at each other and think, `Wow, who is going to start dividing up all the majors? Who is going to start taking them all?’” Faldo said.
Chamblee commented that both the players share a unique style of playing and personalities. They are quick in their game and do not get stuck in the swing mechanics.
Therefore, both of them have great futures ahead of them. He especially praised McIlroy because of his better swing technique.
“I think in trying to look 20 years down the road, Rory McIlroy has a better swing, technically,” he said. He has got better rhythm”.
